Weekly Awesome 5.16

May 16, 2012

.

~Stuff I pinned on my TIAW and Wisdom boards.
~Having a bad day? Let the Calming Manatee make it better.
~Hillary Clinton gives zero fucks.
~Frankly, I think hairy armpits are feminine and sexy. I mean on women. On men I think they are masculine. And sexy.
~Yes, fat people can (and do!) exercise.
~I think I’ve shared this video before but I’ll share it again (and maybe AGAIN someday) because it needs to be shared. In related news, I’m glad to see MoveOn promoting this which has nothing to do with political party and everything to do with all women in our culture.

Love all of this. I love HIllary’s response in particular…I love that by giving zero fucks, she’s not giving her critics the power…The hairy armpit article was excellent and interesting, but that topic is one that always makes me feel a little bad, because I really do not like being a hairy person (and I am, thanks to my middle-eastern heritage). I shave/pluck/thread/wax pretty regularly…and I know I’m giving in to societal norms when I’m doing it, but I can’t help it. When people argue that shaving infantilizes us as women, I actually understand that point…but then I feel bad that I really would rather not be hairy.

I’m with you, Mina. As I said up there, I find hairy armpits sexy on women. But I shave mine. It’s like she said in the article: hard. (Of course I also like hairless pits, too. I, um, just like pits. Heh.) Point being that reading that article really showed me that I’m not ready to be totally hairy and still feel feminine. And I think that’s OK for now (maybe forever) because of all there other work I do on myself in this area. Perhaps someday I’ll be there. But it’s not going to help me any by allowing me to guilt myself into it. That’s not really feminist either, is it?

Bonnie, that’s exactly it…doesn’t make sense to guilt myself into it. And in my own defense (not that I need one, I know), I would be so super hairy…I see some women who don’t shave, and they have this soft, light fuzz…that’s now how it would be for me :)

A guy here – hairy women are awesome. I find it very sexy and it exudes confidence.

Just my two cents. Rock on ladies!
